Basic notes:
- things we know - facts
- there were originally three pigs, they were actually little and there were three of them
- building supplies were ordered from Home Depot including quite a lot of straw, sticks (lumber), and bricks
- there is one living pig who claims that the wolf found boiled in his home was attempting to "eat" him
- the pigs' mother is still living, but is not cooperating with the police
- there have been many thefts at construction sites and reports of kickbacks to unscrupulous building inspectors and many construction workers who have not been paid for work they have completed
- there has been a rise insurance claims with regards to homes suddenly "collapsing"
- Remember, all that we have confirmed is this:
- there was a girl names Little Red Riding Hood
- she did have a grandmother at one time
- there were woodcutters in the area
- the local police have been speaking in schools about internet and personal safety including not giving out personal information such as where you are going, what you are carrying, where you live, avoiding opening doors, talking or going off with strangers
- Red did leave the house - we don't know if (1) she had her cape; (2) that she actually had a basket with a cake and a pound of butter; or (3) that she actually went into the woods and ever reached her grandmother's house
Write a lead for a news story, an editorial, and a feature story for each set of facts from the two incidents. (practice for the quiz tomorrow).

- Newspaper editors often have more stories than they can print. How do they determine the stories with the most "news value"?
- In choosing the most important story our of each set of three below, pretend you are news editor of your school newspaper.
- Your choice should be made on the basis of which stories will interest and/or affect the most number of students.
- Other factors include timeliness, proximity (nearness), size (impact), conflict, human emotions, and unusualness (uniuqeness).
- Be prepared to defend your choices.
- TITLE = NEWSVALUES. (save as P_newsvalues_your last name).
- PUT NEWS VALUES at the top of the page.
- Number each answer. Type the letter of the most newsworthy story and the actual story description. In parenthesis ( ) explain why you chose that one of the three options that you had.
- ex. (c) The famous actor will visit next week. (timeliness - even though it would be more timely to choose the one that talked about tomorrow, we have a lot going on this week).
- For those re-taking the test -- you will be able to work with a partner to complete the exercise.
