ACTIVITY 1.8 Sentence Combining Exercise
Students will need to put their editing hats on to complete this exercise, Handout the papers. Students will need to combine the short sentences that are grouped together. Sometimes, it is just a matter of deleting words that repeat -- other times it may require re-organizing the sentences and the information within them to make a more robust/correct sentence.
They must combine the groups of sentences into one complete sentence. Then, on Moodle, they need to write a story using their newly formed sentences. The story/essay should be approximately three (3) paragraphs. The MOODLE assignment can be found on the current week (Feb. 16-24).
If done early, students need to finish their beat stories and their movie reviews. There is a quia.com assignment (FEATURE REVIEW) for them to complete. They need to look at their stories and then give themselves a grade for both the MOVIE REVIEW and the BEAT STORY. A sample is attached and students will not receive a complete score until the items are reviewed.
If they have any additional time, they may work in SHARED ACTIVITIES on quia.com, but these should take most of the period.

The question before Mayor Beverly Johnson and the city council Tuesday was a simple one: Should they let stand a July 14 Planning Board decision to allow "the reconstruction of Building 1000, located in the Alameda Towne Centre at 2230 South Shore Center"? The words "Building 1000" may not resonate with many Alamedans, but contention over what to do with this structure echoed throughout the city council chambers Tuesday night. In the minds of many, the city council's decision on this matter would either preserve or rend the very fabric of the city of Alameda | |

How It Works
Check here for what you will be doing when you have a guest teacher! This will be available each time that Ms. Maye is absent from the class so that students will know exactly what is expected to be completed in her absence.
NEVER contradict a guest teacher -- if plans change, we will review the material in class the next day or as soon as Ms. Maye returns to the classroom. If you have internet access and understand the assignment, complete at home.
