    • Students will need to write a brief response that explains the difficulties in constructing the Tower using  the specifics from the video.

FRIDAY, May 15th

You have an essay due in myaccess. You may submit up to five times -- your goal is to improve each time. Remember -- you need to head to your SECOND PERIOD class on Monday Morning!

Life Without Electricity

Suppose you woke up one morning and found that all the electricity in the country was off and would not be restored.  What do you think life would be like?

Write a story about what you imagine would happen if you woke up in a world without electricity. Explain the setting and details of the experience.  Tell your story in an interesting way to engage the reader.  Remember to make sure the reader has enough details about your experience so they can picture it in their mind.

As you write, remember your story will be scored based on how well you:

  • develop a multi-paragraph response to the assigned topic that clearly communicates the purpose of your story to the audience.
  • describe the characters, setting, and conflict using meaningful sensory descriptions and details that enable the reader to visualize the experiences in your narrative.
  • organize your story in a clear and logical manner, including a beginning, middle and end.
  • use well-structured sentences and language that are appropriate for your audience.
  • edit your work to conform to the conventions of standard American English.

  • Tuesday, April 21st

Students need to complete three typing tests and three 10-key tests and enter their best scores using the THIS WEEK IN CE/YBK Website (see where the link is on the paper attached).

After completing the three tests and logging scores, students need to work on the THIS I BELIEVE lesson in Moodle. They will need their VALUES/MOMENTS WORKSHEETS.

When done, they need to create a document - PERIOD_TIB_Your Last Name in google docs. This document MUST be shared with me before the end of the day. On this document they need to briefly describe three incidents that they are considering using for their THIS I BELIEVE entry.

There must be THREE different incidents, scenes that they are considering --- approximately one paragraph each. For those with special considerations, one sentence is fine.

Handout the MY STORY - MEMORIES CHART and explain that this needs to be completed once the students have narrowed their choices to one incident to write about. This will be due by the end of class on Wednesday.

    3. YEARBOOK WORK: Work on the yearbook layouts today. Reminder that they are due on Friday.

MONDAY, Dec. 15th and Tuesday, Dec. 16th

    1. CITY WORK: Students are VERY involved in their projects. There are three sets of teams -- city folks, model folks and essay folks. Tell them that they need to be pretty much done by this Wednesday including completing rubrics for their part of the city. Final cities need to be explained and we will present our creations on Friday.

All materials need to be cleaned up 5 minutes before the end of the period.  In period 5 there are five or six students working on a video production with the counselor. Be sure the all the city disks are put back and the model builders get the clean-up notice at least 10 minutes before the end to start cleaning the paint brushes and making sure that all the lids and pieces are back in place.

    2. CHALLENGE ASSIGNMENT: Create a google document to explain what your team has been working on during the last two weeks. Only one document per team. On the first line, put the PERIOD, Last names of the people in your Group, Name of your city or MODEL/ESSAY.

Share with me at either ESMSp2@elsegundousd.com or espsp5@elsegundousd.com (depending on your class).

You must explain what you have done/learned so far. Due at the end of class -- break up the work.

    THURSDAY -Nov.6 - Guest Teacher

Just PRESS PLAY -- It's all explained on the video as well

    1. KEYBOARDING - have them open their KYB documents. They are to work on the JOHN MAYER lyrics from the packets found in the black magazine holders at the front of the row. They are to type for at least 15 minutes. If they get done with the lyrics, have them work on the next document in the packet. The lyrics need to be broken up as they are on the paper.

They need to add a PAGE BREAK and put the TITLE AND DATE at the top of each page.

CHALLENGE: See if you can find out how to create two columns for JUST the John Mayer lyrics - not the whole document.

    2. CHALLENGE ASSIGNMENT: Will be a set of assignments that are marked for PERIOD 3 and PERIOD 5.

Review the instructions with them and possibly help with the first sample. Then they need to work for at least 10 minutes on their own. Then for the last five they can work with a partner.

This assignment will be their ticket INTO class on FRIDAY.

    3. MOODLE: ELECTION ISSSUE - If they have not added a post to the board, they need to do so. Most of period 5 has not added an initial issue to the board. They know the drill. If done, they can add a reply to a few posts-- keeping in mind the rules:

      (a) Talk about the issue, not the person
      (b) Use proper academic language, tone and words
      (c) No emotioncons, text language, etc. is permitted

    How It Works...

Check here for what you will be doing when you have a guest teacher! This will be available each time that Ms. Maye is absent from the class so that students will know exactly what is expected to be completed in her absence.

NEVER contradict a guest teacher -- if plans change, we will review the material in class the next day or as soon as Ms. Maye returns to the classroom. If you have internet access and understand the assignment, complete at home.
